NANCY/KRAKOW, Nov 30 (SW) - Nancy moved into the Round of 32 of the UEFA with a Group E demolition of Feyenoord while Wisla Krakow stayed in the hunt with a big win over Basel.
Nancy - Feyenoord 3-0 Sébastien Puygrenier fired the upstart French side into the lead on 22 minutes after a shot by Pascal Berenguer deflected off the center-half before going past Henk Timmer in the Dutch goal. Feyenoord defender André Bahia then gifted Nancy a big second goal just before the interval when a corner kick by Michaël Chrétien went off his leg and into Timmer's goal. It went from bad to worse for Feyenoord in the 66th minute as Monsef Zerka was taken down in the area by Karim Saidi, and Zerka stepped up to the spot and made no mistake. After a 30-minute delay due to crowd trouble, Feyenoord had a chance to pull a goal back, but Pierre van Hooijdonk missed from the spot after Stein Huysegems was fouled. Wisla Krakow - Basel 3-1 Mladen Petric fired the Swiss side in front in the eighth minute as he turned in a shot from close range, but that would be Basel's only high point as the Polish side equalized three minutes later when Pawel Brozek fired home from inside the area. Jean Paulista then sent the home fans into joy in the 71st minute after he managed to put home a cross by Jakub Blaszczykowski, and Brozek added a second goal 12 minutes later to ensure the victory. The Poles need just a point in their Matchday 5 encounter at Feyenoord to move on while the Dutch side must win to advance. Basel's loss eliminated them from European competition. |
