VIENNA, Oct 25 (SW) – Austrian league champions Austria Vienna have wasted very little time in announcing a new coach.
Following the sacking on Monday of Frenkie Schinkels, the board have announced that Georg Zellhofer will be the new man in charge.
From hero to zero, Schinkels had guided Austria Vienna to a league and cup double last season, but with only two victories out of thirteen in this campaign the team lies bottom of the Austrian Bundesliga.
At the end of the 2005/6 season billionaire and major shareholder Frank Stronach had ordered Schinkels to sell many of the club’s experienced players and replace them with local Austrian players who had lower price tags.
In all twelve players left including strikers Roland Linz and Sigard Rushfeldt and goalkeeper Joye Didulica.
Zellhofer has had a successful and almost fairy tale beginning to his managerial career by taking fifth division side Pasching to the Bundesliga in six seasons before winning the Bundesliga with them in the 2003/4 season and following it up by repeating it the next season 2004/5.
