Internazionale Milano's Serie A lead over AS Roma was reduced to four points with a 2-1 home defeat by Juventus in a full Saturday programme of fixtures.
Inter had not lost a league game at home since April 2007 but third-placed Juventus were not intimidated by that run against their old rivals. Early in the second half Mauro Camoranesi latched on to a pass and produced a confident finish, and not long after the hour mark Alessandro Del Piero set up David Trezeguet to double the lead. Maniche gave Inter hope with seven minutes left but Juve held on.
Roma had put pressure on Inter earlier on with a 2-1 defeat of Empoli FC, bouncing back from their midweek loss against S.S. Lazio. Max Tonetto gave the Giallorossi a half-time lead, but that was cancelled out within five minutes of the restart by Sebastian Giovinco. Simone Perrotta was then dismissed not long before the hour but Christian Panucci was on target in the 63rd minute to leave Empoli second bottom
AC Milan, meanwhile, recovered from consecutive defeats to beat Torino FC 1-0 with Pato's seventh goal in 13 league appearances midway through the second half. However, in the race for the fourth UEFA Champions League place they remain four points behind ACF Fiorentina, who overcame Lazio 1-0 through Giampaolo Pazzini's strike 13 minutes from time.
Cagliari Calcio's hope of climbing off the bottom were dashed by UC Sampdoria's added time equaliser to level the scores at 1-1, but the Blucerchiati relinquished sixth spot due to Udinese Calcio's 2-0 home defeat of 17th-placed AS Livorno Calcio. Also grateful to a 90th minute leveller are Reggina Calcio, in 18th, who drew 1-1 at home with SSC Napoli and are within a point of Livorno. Not far ahead are Parma, who lost 2-0 at AC Siena, and Calcio Catania following a 0-0 draw at Atalanta BC. Genoa CFC climbed into the top half of the table with a 3-2 win at US Cittá di Palermo.
