PARIS (AFP) - Bordeaux cut Lyon's lead at the top of the French league on Saturday with a 3-0 thrashing of Strasbourg but the goal celebrations of Brazilian defender Henrique caused offence.

Lyon have 61 points from 29 matches, following their 3-0 win at Monaco on Saturday, to lead by six points from Bordeaux, by 12 from Nancy and 15 from Marseille, who drew 3-3 at Lens on Sunday.

First half goals from Henrique and then a third from Fernando Cavenaghi in the second half earned Bordeaux an impressive win.

However Henrique celebrated his goals by firing an imaginary machine gun into the crowd which seriously displeased Strasbourg fans and coach Jean-Marc Furlan.

Furlan said: "I think the goal celebrations were dangerous. He scored, went towards our fans, took out a machine gun and then pretended to fire at our supporters.

"I think this is a dangerous type of thing to do for the future. I think it's easy to do and in certain countries, it's banned. I wasn't happy with this on either occasion."

Henrique was in regretful mood and explained he had not meant to make offence. "I want to say sorry to the Alsation supporters. I understand (Furlan's) reaction and I'm sorry. It was neither lack of respect or provocation.

"I just told a Brazilian friend of mine, with whom I played when I was younger at Flamengo, that I would celebrate my next goal like that. That's all."

In the Sunday late game, fourth-placed Marseille's attempts to claw back some ground on Lyon were foiled by Lens who trailed by two goals to nil at half-time before scoring three times after the break, though Marseille equalised at 3-3 to earn a point.

Samir Nasri and Benoit Cheyrou had put Marseille ahead before Toifilou Maoulida, Kader Mangane and Loic Remy turned the tables for Lens. Djibril Cisse scored Marseille's equaliser two minutes from time.

An Abdul Kader Keita double propelled Lyon to a 3-0 thrashing of Monaco on Saturday.

Brazilian Fred got the second goal against Monaco, who were virtually non-existent in the opening 45 minutes.

Though the result in itself was not a surprise owing to Monaco's lacklustre season, it was Lyon's first victory at Monaco during their run of six consecutive league victories. During those years Lyon managed five defeats and a draw.

It was also the first time in their history that Lyon had scored more than two league goals at the Principality club.

Lyon coach Alain Perrin admitted a seventh title was looking more likely following this result. "We played a great match and the players showed real desire in an away match that is never easy," Perrin said.

"We really excelled in the first half in a match of two distinctly different 45 minutes of play. A point would have pleased me but three points have given us a major boost in our quest for the title."

He said they would be looking to consolidate on this victory in their next league match against Paris Saint Germain at home.

PSG, who are fighting relegation only just managed to escape defeat thanks to a goal from Pauleta 10 minutes from time to earn a 1-1 draw at home to Valenciennes, leaving the capital city club fourth from bottom.
