BERLIN (AFP) - The Ivory Coast's German coach Uli Stielike, who quit the Africa Cup of Nations to nurse his dying son, will return to his post on a provisional basis, according to a report to appear here on Saturday.
"I am delighted to be able to continue to work. This trial period solution works for me," Stielike told Saturday's edition of the Cologne Express. The former German international has agreed with the president of the Ivory Coast's Football Federation to occupy the post until April 15. He will prepare the side for their friendly against Tunisia on March 26. Stielike, 53, returned to Germany in January to be with his son, Michael, who died on February 1. The German had been replaced by the Frenchman Gerad Gili during the Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana when the Ivory Coast were knocked out in the semi-finals by the host nation. Steilike, who played in the 1982 World Cup final, succeeded Henri Michel as the Ivory Coast's head coach in September 2006. |
