PSV Eindhoven will clinch a fourth consecutive league title on Saturday if they beat NEC Nijmegen and AFC Ajax lose at SC Heerenveen.
PSV took a significant step towards another successful defence last weekend when they beat FC Groningen 3-0 and Ajax lost 2-1 at FC Twente. The Eindhoven club have 64 points, seven more than their Amsterdam rivals and are ten ahead of Heerenveen, Feyenoord and NAC Breda. "From now on we can prepare for the play-offs," said Ajax coach Adrie Koster last Sunday. "Our chance of winning the title has gone. We have missed out on our main goal this season and that is disappointing."
NAC Breda, in fifth, meet fourth-placed Feyenoord in another top-end affair on Saturday. The teams finishing second, third, fourth and fifth go through to a play-off to determine who will reach next season's UEFA Champions League third qualifying round. At the other end of the Eredivisie, the bottom club SC Excelsior (23 points) meet VVV Venlo (26) needing a lifeline in their bid to avoid relegation. Only one team will go down.
