AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani called Massimiliano Allegri to wish him happy birthday in an attempt to make peace with the coach.
Galliani was left angry and embarrassed by Milan's 5-1 friendly defeat to Real Madrid and clearly felt Allegri was to blame, criticising the coach for the number of substitutions he made in the game.
"When you play against Real Madrid you should not think it is just a friendly," he told
Gazzetta dello Sport.
"We're in New York, in front of 60,000 people, a full stadium, all eyes on him, millions of eyes connected via the TV. Milan is not playing at a Serie D side."
Galliani was infuriated by Allegri's decision to make nine substitutions in the second half at Yankee Stadium, even though opposing boss Jose Mourinho made 11 changes.
Following his angry outburst with Allegri, Galliani, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, sought to consolidate his relationship with the Milan coach and used Allegri's birthday as an opportunity to improve relations.
Galliani reportedly personally called Allegri to wish him a happy birthday on Saturday.
AC Milan start their Serie A campaign on the August 26 at home to Sampdoria.
